What does everyone think about the idea of filling my rear doors with expanding foam?

I was thinking to coat the inside with some kind of aluminium type primer and then paint before filling it with foam. This would greatly help with sound proofing! But will it be likely to ruin the doors or cause problems in any way? They are not exactly cheap to replace!

The foam won't cause any problems, it's the water it traps in. If you've done a good job on rust proofing the foam should be ok. That's my 2c worth.

oop's, should have said, my 2p's worth, but that's about 4c our money.

BMC used to fill the sills with foam and I believe it did prevent ingress of water and rusting. VERY nasty fumes if you ever needed to do any welding near it though

Potential fire risk? I wouldn't want to be stuck in a burning car, but REALLY wouldn't want to be in one filled with that stuff. It isn't widely used in the automotive industry, there must be some reason for that and I think the toxic fumes mentioned above may be that reason.

The foam shrinks over time & a gap is created between the sill & foam thus leaving you with the same problem.

I wouldn't advise it at all, someone did it to one of mine before i had it, when you come to restore the mini it is a pain in the arse to get out if you need it out, which I did, I was removing the rear bins though so I cut them out and it still wasn't easy to get it out, really don't do it, terrible idea, plus its a great way to keep water in there if any gets in

Yeah I pretty much thought the same as you've all replied. So at least I have an answer. I'll try to make a soundproof panel to fit to the inside of the door.

Any suggestions?
