Our Mini City E has been overheating and there seems to be what looks like tiny particals of copper in the water. Can't see it leaking anywhere but is using water. has had a dose of K-Seal because we suspect the heater matrix had been leaking. temperature gauge is up high all the time. thermostat is working ok. Car has been standing for a few years , just gone back on the road. Any thoughts?

Don't know about K-Seal, but most of the ''leak fix block your heater matrix bodges'' are copper coloured which would explain the coolant colour. It's probably some rust too seeing as it's been stood, I assume you've not flushed the coolant though and replaced with fresh?

After flushing it out be a good idea if still overheating to check the thermostat

OK thanks, I have flushed it through and it seems to be running OK, although the temp gauge is up towards hot, but does not seem to be loosing cooling and did not look to be overheatingf after a run

Thanks for the advice - I have not worked this much on a car for at least 25 years, since getting the Mini back on the road for my Daughter. In fairness though she did type the original post from inside the warm house while I was taking the thermostat ouit in the snow

That's what the k-seal/rad seal stuff is copper the particles bind together to block any holes so if you have put that in then that's why it's there

thanks I realised it was the Kseal when I thought about it, to begin with though it just looked like bits of swarf in the radiator
