hello!
Having a very annoying issue where my battery it will last as little as a week or if i'm lucky a month before the car wont start and it needs charging  . just got a new battery and been playing around with my vault meter and find that when i try and start my mini the battery drops from 12 volts to 10 before the car finally fires up.

So my question is would this be what is effecting my battery life and the reason for my unpredictable recharges?and would this drop in volts be coursed by a on the blink starter motor  ?

helpful comments would be much appreciated. Tom

Voltage drop when starting is normal. Things to check are that the battery receives around 13.5v with the engine running and that there is nothing draining it like an alarm. To me is sounds like your old battery was knackered, see how you go with a new one but don't expect it to be able to start the car after more than a few months standing, they self discharge

Like Luke said. Check the voltage with the car off. Should be around 12V. Start the car. It should be around 13.5V running with nothing on (lights, etc.) if it isn't than I would suspect a bad alternator.

arh okay then just thought id ask about the volt drop. with the new battery its reading 12 v standing and around 13.5V running so prob will be a case off running it and seeing what happen' s. thanks guys
Just out of curiosity why is it that if i run the car with the choke out the more volts i read on the volt meter. with the car running with the choke out a bit it was reading 14.23 volts and .13.5 with out?
