Can someone tell me what is the difference between them? Such as speed and how much they both cost to day?

A v tec conversion is proved to screw weight distribution and give a crap handling, much better the R1. This time you can have problems with chains, but the only place where a vtec needs to be is in a honda.
There are other popular conversions like micra, vauxhall etc all better than a vtec...

One has a sensible reverse, the other doesn't.

Both change the handling and driving characteristics dramatically - it's up the the end user to decide whether for better or worse.
I like A-Series better.

r1 engine and clutch isnt designed to pull the weight of a mini 2-3times the mass its designed to move, if you want to pull away at 5k and go through clutchs go for it

if you like understeer and wheel sping go vtec

if you want a fun nippy car just tune and play with a 1275lump

Imagine some chav alongside you at the traffic lights in a corsa with an exhaust the size of Katie prices *ahem* thinking your car is an old banger and then you rev it and it sounds like a bike.

Where do you want the engine? front or back?

Where do you want to use it? road or track?

If you need it for the road are you liable to want to go backwards at any point - think very hard about this, its usually another sway factor if its for road use

The latest pro motive gearbox has a reverse gear, I think.

But then again a VTEC engine can always be turbocharged for those times when 0-60 in 4 seconds just isn't quick enough... >_<

It has and its a good kit, I like it and nearly bought it, only downside for me was my mini wasn't gonna lose any weight so was worried about a bike lump pulling a cars weight as mentioned above by tom

There's also a point about it still looking like a mini, so where the engine is and if it fits is another factor

Z-cars kit is awesome but out of reach for most for cost and work, pro-mo kit is doable by most on both fronts, most of the issues with chains etc have been sorted, have a good read through the bike build diaries

As for vtec, well any car engine swap has its own headaches and cost and time, as for which car engine thats all down to preference - just like choosing whether to go for bike or car lump

You can revert any swap back to a-series (if it happens to happen that way) pro-mo would be alot more easier but if you took the a-series out and put a car lump in there (still FWD) then you know how to take it all back out again - its still a mini afterall

Changing back from a rear engine is a book all on its own!
