Ok ,bought some rear sub frame mounts today, turns out they are the wrong size. I bought post 76 mounts for an 84 shell but it would appear the sub frame is pre 76. Do I just need to change the mounts or do I need to change the whole sub frame?

Cheers

On the rear subframe they are interchangeable, you just need the larger trunnions that hold it to the heel board.

Thanks for that. Just looked on ebay and I pick up a set of trunnions for about £10, or a set of solid type bushes for less than that. Could I fit the later type mounting kit I have and just replace the rubber bush with the early solid type bush. The car is going to be used for hill climbing or is the later type trunnion a better mounting to start of with.

Yes, the only difference between the two mounting arrangements is the size of that front bush and so the size of the trunnion it need to fit into.

The old bush and trunnion are better because there is less rubber to allow subframe movement, so all you need is a pair of early trunnions and bushes. The large later ones were introduced to reduce road noise, but I could never detect any difference.
