Only done 100 miles on a fresh 1330 engine. I notices the cast time I was out oil dripping from the breather pipe on the timing chain cover. There is also quite a strong smell of fumes in the car

So I recon I need a catch tank. This will allow me to breath from bother the timing chain end and clutch end of the car into somit that catches the oil.

A lot of tanks seem to have a small K&N breather on them. However, and tell me if I am wrong, this will not get round the problem of the smell.

Would I be better to remove the filter and run a pipe under the car?

Does anyone have a suggestion of a suitable catch tank?

On the breather pipe. How have you currently got that all rigged up? To the carb or have you hooked it up else where? Also how many other breathers do you have.

On the fuel smell, you sure the tank breather pipe is connected to the top of the tank and through the hole in the floor? Cuts out a load of smell, had mine come off one or twice.

If you want to feed it back into the carb then you don't need the breather, just run hose from all your breathers to the catch tank, then run one hose to the carb, to provide a vacuum, and help draw out the fumes from the crank case.

If you do not wish to send the fumes into your engine, then just feed them into the catch tank and fit a filter to it. If you currently have it like this then a line to a low pressure point under or to the side of the car would be your best bet I would have thought.

Alternatively you could find out what the root cause of this issue is?

I dont think there is an underlying problem, the engine is new so rings not bedded in and running 10.5:1 CR

Currently just got pipes from the breathers running in the engine bay

Fuel breather is attached and vented below the floor. However the small is not a pure petrol smell

Having spoken the Calver I do not want to breath into the carbs now

Is it worse when the windows open ? If so it's the breather on the top of the petrol tank, it's blocked. Pull the pipe off the tank end and blow down it, to check.....

No, better.

Like I said, its not pure petrol smell more vaporied oil. The vent is not blocked as I have just replaced it

I was looking for idea re what people have used for beather please

I've got a 1litre catch tank, being fed from transfer case, rocker cover and fuel pump hole (in place of timing chain cover). On the front is a small filter to allow air in, and a tiny vac pipe going into the inlet / vac side to expel the fumes. Works well.

Will get pic tonight when I am back. This is the one I have http://www.merlinmot...oduct_info.html

I had it modified to accept another inlet and the small outlet to the vac side of throttle body.
