Its a Weber 28/36 and is used and rated by Vizard in the yellow bible, I used to run one on a 998 Cooper a few years back and it works quite well once correctly jetted, What size is your engine? if its a Std 1275 or less then it would be suitable, if you have a modded 1275+ you'll get more performance from a HIF44

Mark, what inlet manifold did you use with the 28/36 Weber? I must say the 28/36 was a great carb on the old Cortina GT and should also be good on the Mini so long as the manifold is well-designed. I know when I changed from a 28/36 to twin 40DCOE's on my old Mk.1 GT there was an improvement, but not as much as I expected even though I had a Cosworth A2 cam and a 'works' rally head. It used a hell of a lot more petrol with the twin 40's though!

Yes I have tried it and not going by the book, the 28/36 with 26/27mm chokes flows 225cfm and a Hif44 flows 240cfm, and as you know cfm depends a lot on the cylinder head/valves and its restrictions and the type of manifold fitted. My 998 Cooper was better on the 28/36 than the 1292, but the Cooper was standrd and HS2s The 1293 modified.didnt and I changed to a 45DCOE.

Should work very well on the 998 engine when jetted correctly.

I've asked Mark what manifold he used with his 28/36.

I understand that there were several verions of the 28/36 manifold available at the time, and the one in the photos in D Allen post was with the carb facing the correct way to produce power, the other manifolds put the float chamber on the n/s which could cause fuel surge and one other had the manifold setup in relation to the chokes.and needed modifying internally to increase its cfm
Mine was as per D Allens.
