Hi

I am trying to get the settings right on my Clarke 151 EN Turbo too do spot welding. I've punched holes in some 0.8 mm but I can't get the settings right. Anyone got any tips? If I have the settings low then it doesn't penetrate. Too high and it still doesn't seem to penetrate but it blows the top sheet away. There has got to be a way of working out the right settings.

Thanks,

RodAndTom

0.6mm wire settings is whatever sounds best..least thats how I work, if it sounds right it normally is.

use short bursts don't hold trigger to longer..

The manual suggests for thickness 0.6 - 0.8 A 2 Min for 0.6 wire

0.8 - 1.0 ....... 1 2/3 max

Ok I should have mentioned I have .9 cored wire. How much will that hangs those settings do you think?

Just read the post properly. I will give that a go and get some practice in ;-)

Cheers

Just to note, this is plug welding, not spot welding

Fair enough. Plug, spot or anything else - I can't do it properly right now :-)

One of my mates reckoned that you should drill right through both pieces of metal and the seal the edges together with the weld. That doesn't sound right so am I doing it right by only punching one piece of metal?

Yes you are right one layer only. With a 1/4" hole I use max power on my 135 and wire speed to 8.

Make sure the panels are clamped together tight, otherwise you are much more likely to blow holes

get some squashed copper pipe and put it on the other side of the hole, as the weld doesnt stick to the copper just a little easier to fill the hole.
