Hi guys!

How are we all doing? Basically i have been wondering why my fuel and temperature gauges aren't working? All the others are woo! I have searched on here and discovered that connecting the 2 wires that connect to the fuel tank should register a full tank so when I got home I tried this and it worked got a full tank whilst I was there I changed the spade connectors and cleaned the connector I then thought I'd have a look at the cable below the thermostat housing the connector was corroded as was the spade so I cleaned the connector and replaced the spade however neither of them are working still and I have also read that this could be the voltage stabiliser but I can't find this and so I'm beginning to wonder how I go about fixing it? If anyone has any input that would be marvellous!!

I pretty sure (although don't quote me that my dials are like these http://www.theminifo...on#entry1435440 but my ones also include a rev counter which is also working hehe

Thanks guys!

Jonny

By the looks of it you have the Nippon brand of gauges and the voltage stabliser in built into the lower part of the fuel and temperature part of the gauges, its nor like the earlier cars where you just put a new stabliser on the back of the speedo, Speak to Speedy Cables sure they can repair them on 01639 732213

Thanks for your help mate! Just a thought if when the 2 fuel gauge wires are joined i register a full tank would that not suggest that its the sender? the bit im confuzzled about is that fact there both not working which suggests its the stabilizer? although in the thread I've linked the guy discovered it was the earth under the bonnet, and a dodgy wire from the fuel sender? so could these be the culprit? any idea how to chase cables?!

thanks in advance!

Jonny

If you read what I wrote here originally, forget it. It wasn't really relevant.

Does the temperature gauge respond if you earth its sender cable too?

I haven't tried is that just a matter of unplugging the little cable under the thermostat and attaching it to the body or engine and watching it go all the way to hot?

Sorry i'm retarded!

Thanks

Jonny

Yes. There is a thread here about testing and repairing or replacing the Nippon type stabiliser but I can't remember what the name of it was. I think it was by Stormintrooper.

The article Dan is thinking about is found in the FAQ section link below:
Nippon Seiki Stabilizer

However, you said that connecting the two sending unit wires at the fuel tank DID make the fuel gauge go to full. That means the stabilizer is probably OK and that the issue/fault is the fuel sending unit in the tank.

To test the temperature sending unit you do almost the same test. You disconnect that green/blue wire from the temperature sender on the cylinder head and earth the connector on the wire while the ignition is on. After a minute the temp gauge should climb to full if the stabilizer and gauge are working and the wiring is intact.

There is a wire going to the temperature sender unit on the thermostat housing, unplug it, and hold it against a cylinder head bolt with the ignition on, if the gauge rises then it is likely you have a faulty temperature sender and fuel level sender.

Sorry, I don't understand your question. I didn't mention any ignition wires so I don't know how to respond.

Above Carlos is telling you how to test the temperature gauge (as did I). Give that a try and let us know what the temperature gauge does.

I didn't understand either so I thought I'd reiterate what you said! I did this on Saturday and successfully diagnosed a faulty temp sensor
