i think driving without insurance should carry a minimum of a 12 month ban and a hefty fine.

i'd start saving now by the way, your next insurance renewal is going to scare the pants off you, did you tell the insurance you had been pulled?

Standard TMF.

I'd pop down to your local police station and speak with the officer that pulled you over, or at least the one that said, you're fine now.

Surely if it was meant to 'auto renew' and you have proof of this then they cannot fault you? If this isn't the case or if you have no evidence then I can't see what else you can do... Sorry

i didnt mean that in a harsh way was just making sure you where aware as you seemed shocked to get a court order

it IS the drivers responsibility at all times to make sure they are covered. Doesnt matter in the eyes of the law and police if it was or wasnt to auto renew. Unfortunately you were driving without insurance and thats an offence.

First time, good standing citizen, you may get afew points and a small fine. You will need to then declare this penalty code and the points on your future insurance. code would be IN10 and stays on your license 4 years.
