hi guys. iv just bought my first injection mini, a 1997 MPi and i want to do a service on it to make sure shes a happy little mini. iv had 3 carb minis before (still got one) but iv never had an injection so just want to make sure im getting the right bits.
i know there are lots of arguments on oil so im not even going there lol but i wanted to know what plugs and leads i should get for her. iv been looking on here for ages but there seams to be 3 different types of plugs that every one surgests but cant find a definitive consensus on one. minisport use NGK BPR6EVG in their stage one kit, and people on here recommend BPR6E and BPR6ES. so for a standard MPi (with RC40 bak box) which is best? i know the difference between the last two is one is resistant and the other isnt but i dont know what to use. also what leads should i use or doesnt it matter, dont know if there are any different ones but some one said you can buy resistant and non resistant leads??

I'm happy using the NGK UR6IX plugs (iridium) but regardless of the specific plug you choose, for an MPI you must get resistor plugs. And wires if possible. Resistor components suppress electromagnetic radiation that can play havoc with the electronic components in an MPI.

All modern engines require resistor plugs because of this, and if you want a working radio, you'll want the resistor wires too.

An added note is to make sure your rocker cover gasket is in good shape and well sealed. If not, it will leak oil into the MPI intake manifold, and cause the engine to knock (requiring a higher grade of fuel to suppress it) as well as coking up the piston tops and combustion chambers.

After replacing my rocker gasket, I suddenly found that it would run very well on mid-grade whereas premium fuel was needed before. The gasket sealed for about 2 years, so replacing it at every valve adjustment is about right.

I also found when I pulled the head, oil in the intake, and the signs of heavy coking. There's an article on the web somewhere describing how to get an A-series rocker cover absolutely flat and true for perfect sealing. The #1 cause of warped rocker covers is excessive tightening of the rocker cover nuts.

thank you for the reply. I have to say that when I got the car a new rocker gasket was on my list (got one yesterday) and i'll fit it later but that would explain why its runs really sweet but rough at the same time lol also I found the original rover owners handbook and so i'll use the plugs in there, NGK bpr6e. same as minispares said yesterday.
