I'm thinking about fitting a mk1 moustache to my mini to suit the grille. I did so on my last mini but it already had the chrome bar removed from the bonnet.

1) How are these removed?

2) What could be lurking underneath?

Cheers in advance!

the grille thats on it is the wrong shape for a mk1 surround, you need a mk1 grille!

I did think this because of the chrome strip at the bottom.. hmm, was thinking about the 11 slat cooper grille

Not 100% if I want to yet, just an idea :shifty:

you can turn your bonnet into a mk1 bonnet by removing the chrome strip once this is off you will see the extra lip on the bonnet this needs to be removed by drilling out the spotwelds

To removete chrome'ish finisher then its just a matter of a couple of philips screws but to make a mk1 look the mounting lip on the bonnet needs taking off.... as already pointed out you'd also need a mk1 style grille too.....

As to what could be lurking underneath - rust..... but under the moulding its hardly ever serious...

If it was rusty underneath to save messing around surely it would just be easier to get a mk1 bonnet?

Hinge mounting points differ from early to late - be careful.

a mk1 bonnet wouldn't fit buddy.....the hinges are in a different place, you need a van/pick up bonnet, anything from around 1968 onwards has the later hinge type.

you just beat me to it L400RAS....;-)

It's quite a good job I ask on here at times, I'd end up with a stash of useless parts if I didn't

I've always wondered why the bonnet on my mk1 had two sets of mounting points for the hinges!
