My mini shell was severely hosed down by the fire brigade when my neighbours Beko dryer caught fire (if you have Beko products, check the model number on line).
My shell was mostly painted (old paint) but had quite a bit of bare metal due to several panels being replaced. My mini now has quite a bit of surface rust. I am after a quick way of killing the rust and also want to prevent future rust. This will only be temporary (6-12 months) as the shell will eventually be fully stripped, primed and painted.
What would be the best product?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but searching mini and rust produces a lot of results, most of which are for clean painted metal.

Cheers
Ben

You will need to rub the rust back to bare metal then treat it with something like Krust. Once that's done it will need a flash of topcoat.

Hi,
Hanks for he reply.
Rubbing it all back will take quite a while, I was hoping for something I could quickly brush on. I have a tin of wax oil which according to the tin would work, but it will be messy to remove.
Cheers
Ben

Yep wire wheels and flap discs is the best way then treating, wax oil will just trap the rust in and allow it to grow under the wax oil.
After treatment topcoat as suggested not just primer as that will still allow moisture in

How about phosphoric acid?? Brush some on, leave it overnight and it will seal the metal up from rust. It can be wire brushed and painted when its dry.

Phosphoric acid is the faster and still good but you need to sand it down

Check out www.rust.co.uk a quick rub down and full coat of epoxy mastic 121 you can then leave the car for as long as you want with no rusting and the surface prep is minimal
