hi guys,
bit of a noob so go easy on me!
ive got a 1989 mayfair which has been sat still for just over a week. i tried to start it today however it just isnt starting!
ive had the spark plugs out, cleaned and heated them up then wacked them back in. i then tried starting again, took the plugs back out and realised the plug tips are bone dry! why would there be no fuel getting to the plug? ive got fuel at the bottom of the carb and the fuel pump is fine.
ive had the choke out and pumped the accelerator pedal and theres no fuel getting to the plugs?!
help appreciated!

Check the spade connectors on the starter solenoid and on the coil, and then if it fires but then stops, check the connections on the starter switch and on the the coil

ok thanks ill check that. do you also reckon it could be the float valve?...i'm also thinking the freezing weather may have done something as its just sat their. might go over the carb/ needle with a hot-air gun.

The freezing point of petrol is very much lower than it ever gets in this country. The ignition point of the fuel vapour coming off your carb though is comfortably inside what you can generate with even a DIY hot air gun so please don't do that! If the blower motor should spark just as you have released a huge bolus of vapour from the float bowl by heating it, or the vapour should get drawn over the red hot coil in the gun, you will not have a good day.
SU carbs don't have throttle pumps.
Have you actually checked if there is a spark or not?

yep i've checked all the plugs for a spark. the problem is that there is no fuel getting to them. i had them out after trying to start using the choke and accelerator pedal and they were bone dry.

Pour a small amount of fuel in the carb intake and see if it fires, then this will confirm its not ignition related. While you there does the slide assembly lift ok either by the lifting pin or your finger in the intake of the SU? By using the choke you drop the jet so there should be enough depression on cranking to draw fuel in?
