A mate of mine has a 1983 mayfair and it has play in the steeing column
Looking on mini spares they list some felt to wrap around
or a plastic bush if it has felt can we fit the later plstic bush?

Define the play could you? Does the column itself move in the tube, or is there play between the steering wheel and the position of the road wheels?

In the tube, do you know if you can use the plastic bush on any year mini
We need to order part asap

The upper plastic bush is the same on all cars pre-airbag, upto 1985 the lower felt bush is fitted and after 85 cars use the plastic bush,The outer column is slightly different where the lower bushes fit and to the best of my knowledge are not interchangeable

Thank you I just want to make sure 100% Icant fit the much better plastic bush to a pre 85 car

I dont think you need to bump it up rich otherwise Minispares with there experience of spares would have said the plastic bush can be fitted to either car (like they do in the parts info) I'd take it by them listing the 2 bushes by years befor/after there are not interchangeable.

Just ring up Simon@ Minispares on 01707 607700 and he'll put you straight, but I'm sure he'll just say fibre before and plastic after 85
