Just got my mini back out of garage after a long winter hibernation period and ive forgot how loud it is!

What are my options for sound proofing? Has anyone used good quality stuff thats cheaper? Can i use it under the bonnet or is it strictly for inside the car away from engine? Wheres best to buy it from?

Can you see outside the car through your air vents or are they connected, mine werent connected and just a hole going to the engine bay so it was very noisey. i wedged a load of sound proofing up there and its not so bad now :P

before i completely stripped mine out i also took the sound proofing out the back and put it on the floor and engine bay wall in the front and then just put the carpet down in the back without the sound proofing :P

You don't have to buy a full kit from them though, I bought a single sheet of their foam / lead sandwich and a can of paint on liquid Noise Killer for my car. Call them and talk about what you want.

Dynamat is more of a dampener, its mutes the rattles, I'm not sure on its ability at blocking soundwaves.

Foam does a much better job of that, hence why you'll find foam style behind the dash.

It's more the interface between the lightweight foam and the heavy rubber it is bonded to that kills the noise. The change in density attenuates the sound.
