Mini 1000 To 1275 Spi Auto Conversion

Reading between the lines I see that a lot of people tend to dump the injection system, sling a carb on and either leave the ECU to run the ignition or dump that out for a later A+ dizzy.
I'll have the engine out of the halfcut by tomorrow and wonder what the general consensus of opinion is - try and stick with the SPi system and remove the loom from the halfcut, complete with instruments etc, and just run a return fuel line back to the tank - or take the easy option and use my existing loom (booth cars have AC systems so no big deal) and find a dizzy and carb to suit the 1275 engine and dump all the fuel injection stuff?
I still like the idea of keeping the full loom from the half cut and persevere with the SPi system - it was said to be fine when the car was cut (but then again, aren't they always?) - or should I take the cowards way out and pull my old dizzy and carb off the old engine for now and then source a 44HIF and a good second hand dizzy?
I must admit I had thought I was getting into a real nightmare, but it seems that actually all the mounting points are there for the brake servo etc, and the SPi loom seems to be easy enough to remove.....
Many thanks,
CM

If I thought I could just pull the engine bay loom out I may feel more inclined to stick with the SPi. I really don't want to change the clocks etc and the mini I have already is fitted fit AC.
Also of concern for me is that should I lose a crank pos sensor or the like, then the chances of me finding one locally are close on zero - I'd need to have one DHL'd in - I've got no problems with the FI system if I had access to either diags or swap it and see spares.

keep the injection. its really nothing to fear
It is, when you're in Indonesia...
to be honest, every halfcut Minis with injection engine that I have come across in Jakarta have no problem with their sensors and whatnot... If you want to keep the SPi system, then make sure that you not only have the wiring loom in the car, but also the fuel tank with its integrated (and correctly pressured) fuel pump.
My car's engine is originally a 1275 SPi Cooper engine, but I converted it to carb because: a. I don't have the loom and the ECU for the engine; b. I don't have the fuel tank; c. it's easier and cheaper to just use the carb and use an A+ electric dizzy; and d. sourcing sensors if and when it broke can be quite hard, and you have to wait several weeks to get it shipped from the UK, and since (at that time) my car is my daily drive, a carb is much more practical and easier-to-handle solution.
Come to Jakarta? Maybe we can meet up and chat?

Sugeng ndalu Om... Sebetulnya itu hanya masa depan yg membingungkan - gimana cadangan kalo kena kerusakan?
Haya gara2 itu tak ganti semua....
Yo wes balikno pake boso bule...
That's of course the problem - I figured that I may as well change to a simple carb set up rather than risk the thing having a sensor failure in the middle of nowhere - So I have a full SPi set up in good working order if anyone needs......
Boleh tanya Om, sampeyan duwe fesbuk tah?

Just chips and a curry sauce please.
Play nice , no need for sarcasm just because it isn't your language.

Think carefully before you post, what may appear as a joke to some may be offensive to others.

Shouldn't worry about it - the guy I was chatting with speaks perfect English but it seems only polite to use bahasa Indonesia (actually mixed with boso jowo) since I happen to live in his country.
It's quite ironic that sometimes people see fit to make comments like that, when neither of us are resident in the UK, yet the UK still hands out passports to guests who can't speak English...and you lot pay tax to have road signs translated into Urdu....
Part of the "deal" with me living here is that I am expected to learn the national language, many expats don't, but it makes their life extremely tiresome.
I've been involved with Indonesia since 1996, we've owned property here since 2003, but been permanent here since 2008 (which was when the law made it possible for me to live here under wife sponsorship.
I'm quite proud of the fact that we all can speak 3 languages, with my kids speaking 4, and silly comments really don't get under my skin.
Our "chips and curry sauce" poster almost certainly couldn't find Indonesia on the map and I guarantee has no idea about the history and culture of my adopted country.
We don't all live in trees....and with that in mind, a coconut has just dropped in the swimming pool.....

Hal itu dimaksudkan sebagai humor cahaya hati
But maybe some people on here have a sense of humour bypass.
If it was no worry, then why make comments about my geographical intelligence, or lack of it.
I am also very fond of Indonesian cuisine Kari Ayam Randang being a favourite. (Chicken curry). I have travelled far and wide been around the world twice in different directions. I don't speak multiple languages except for my native tongue. But I don't brag about it, nor have I the time to spend 24 hours a day on a forum.
It was not meant as a racist slur and I find that people are far too PC these days and think the worst of anything in case it might "upset" people.
I have been at the butt end of jokes all my life for being Welsh. I just shrug my shoulders and live with it.

Bagi aku gpp tapi bagi yg lain....gak begitu lucu.
As I said, for me not a particular problem and actually quite amusing because of the reality of what you face now in the UK - soon enough you'll be have curry sauce on pretty much every meal - now that IS funny.
I'm afraid your government made the rules about political correctness - an elected government, so if you don't like it, you could ultimately do what I did.
I'm somewhat surprised - you state you actually know where Indonesia is on the map, you even enjoy the cuisine you've mastered the language (wkwkwk).......
So why make the comment?
As for the comment about being 24 hours online - I run a server at home for work with a static IP...and Chrome runs all of the time- hope that clears that one up.
I didn't brag about speaking another language, I just mentioned i'm proud of it. I've seen plenty of expats the world over with their string vests and knotted union jack hankies on their heads demanding their sausage egg and chips - i'm not interested in that sort of expat life.
As I said, I didn't see your comment as racism, just a bit dumb, particularly in the light of your world traveler experiences.
Next time....have kuah opor on your chips......

Now, now...
I see no offence taken. As an English Language teacher (hence, why I'm -supposedly- fluent in English ), it's only natural for me to post and reply in English in an English-language forum...
For Captain: sure, search for my name on Facebook, and feel free to add me. As it happens, I'm also currently the Club Secretary for the Jakarta Morris Club, so anytime you're in Jakarta, we can meet up and I can show you to some Mini-only workshops in the city...
