Had a bit of a hiccup with running this week.

Thought i had a bad HT lead so i bought some new ones and plugs fitted them and it was still a bit rough.

Cousin came round and we re-set the points and now its fine. I'm sure i read that the BLUE points had a bad batch or not so reliable. Can you buy better versions of points or would it be better to fit a electronic conversion kit?

Cheers.

Electronic Kits such as Powersparks/Accuspark and Aldon will improve the reliability over points any day, best mod you can do £ for £.

Well its a personal opinion really. As I have bought 2 different sets of electronic kits from powerspark and accuspark, and they were crap. So I prefer points over electronic, although it may not be as reliable, as long as you know how to keep on top of points, then why change?

Right cheers guys,

Just to clear something up,my coil is a ballast type so fitting a electronic kit, the red wire from the kits would need a power source straight from the fuse holder,is that right?

Does it matter which side of the fuse you use and it needs to be a power source with ignition on only??

Thanks.

What problems did you have with the Powersparks/Accusparks ? were they wired correctly at the coil / and the wiring modified to suit? I have a Aldon in mine and its 100% reliable

It needs to be fed from a ignition swiched 12v feed on the fuse box if your keeping the ballast coil setup

min ritz ryan said earlier that he had problems with a couple and i was hoping to find out what problems he had had.

You had 100% reliability, how long have you had it on?

I've had my Aldon Ignitor kit on for a good 5 years and has been perfect.

I will be selling it along with the ignition coil when I get a chance. Only reason for sale is I've moved onto a 3D mappable system (Nodiz).

Well with the accuspark one I had to modify the magnetic ring so it actually sat on the cam properly, and only lasted a week and a half before it started misfiring and ripped my cap apart. And the powerspark version didnt even work, following all of the installation instructions and making sure all connections were correct, but nothing happened, so I instantly swapped back to my points

So if i stayed with points how often are you supposed to check them.

The reason i started this post is because the car has been on the road for 6-7 weeks and the points needed adjusting,is this about the norm?

Thats why i wondered if you could buy better quality points or go electronic.
