Ive borrowed John Parnells book from the library and he lists the original colours available for coopers in the 1960s.
It shows tartan red with a black roof for example, however works coopers often had white roofs.
Was there actually a choice of roof colour or was it not uncommon to have a special order?
I'm actually more interested to know if fiesta yellow was available with a black roof and even more interested if anyone has pictures of any mark of mini in fiesta yellow and black roof as i'm thinking of painting mine these colours?

The colour listing in John Parnells book is correct.
Here's a colour and trim guide from 1963 showing the options available at the time. Fiesta Yellow car only ever came with the OEW roof, never black.

The red with white roof thing are the Abingdon works colours. The first cars to be painted this way were the works Austin Healeys from 1959, they had Tartan red bodies with white hard tops. The colour scheme was also used on MGB's and the Austin 1800 rally cars of the late 1960's
