It must be! Anyway I replaced them and also replaced the small brown and yellow cable running to it!

The brown/yellow is for the ignition/charge light should run from the small spade terminal in the 3 pin block straight up to the speedo

long shot but do you get 2 warning lights when you turn the ignition on before starting.
orange is oil pressure
red is ignition/charge warning
orange is oil pressure

Only an orange one under the oil temperature come on with ignition

aaahhh we are getting somewhere..
Check the bulb in the red light isn't blown.
That red light needs to come on when ignition switched on, the alternator won't work with out that working
never found out have you got classic center clock or the new infront of driver clocks.
Doesn't make to much difference you still need the red light working

Okay I will check the bulb and it is the 3 dial style speedo

if you can also check you are getting 12v to one side of the bulb...
When you turn the ignition on it gets a 12v feed from the ignition switch...
the negative side of the bulb goes down to the alternator via the brown/yellow wire
