Hi,
just about to invest in a carb for my 1098 engine, but would appreciate a little advice on which is the best matched carb, either a Hif38, Hif44 or just keep the HS2.
The engine spec as follows:
1098 engine With standard pistons.
12G206 Head
Standard Cam (soon to be a 266)
Maniflow exhuast manifold with RC40 twin box.
Will the Hif44 be to much for the 1098 engine?
Many Thanks,
Mark

A 38 will suffice to be honest.

Are you sure its a HS2 ?? 1098 should be the HS4 which is basically same size as a HIF38..
The HIF38 is the modern metric version but I'd doubt you will see any major gains switching if the carb you have is in good nick !!

An HS4 or HIF38 would both work fine. However, a decent alloy inlet manifold is necessary for best results.

I have a "juiced up" 1098 (1130) with a 12g295....I used a HIF38(4) and it worked great! I used an AAU needle.
I switched to a set of twin HS2 and they actually worked a a little better ( I later removed them for another engine )

+1 for the HS4 or HIF38 on a good alloy manifold, try to keep the port sizes sensible.
The 206 is a pretty rare head but one of the best for small bore motors, look after this one. If it's not been skimmed already you may need to take a bit off to get the best out of this set-up.
