Why is it called alcoholics anonymus when the first thing you do is stand up and say "my name is sam and im an alcoholic" ?

Because their real name is Gerald but they are so Pi**ed they forget.

I believe that the "Anonymous" part refers to AA members and groups remaining anonymous to the public and the media, as opposed to each other. Although I actually prefer Tamworthbay's explanation above if I'm honest. :lol:

Unless of course you plug it into the mains first and add a pinch of seasoning, in which case it's then "charged with a salt & battery"!! :P
