Hello all,

I am thinking about removing the heater unit; I'm guessing this isn't advised?

I was wondering why really?

also how would i go about removing it? is it a fairly standard job?

I'm not worried about the temperature of my car and would also like the extra room!

What about being able to clear your windscreen when its fogged up? I think it may be an MOT fail for that reason, but just unbolt it and connect the pip going in with the pipe going out with a bit of hose so its a circuit bypassing the heater

it also is helpful if your car is running a bit hot to help shed some heat from the engine so you dont boil over

Personally I wouldn't !! I know it's coming up to summer but I had my car with no heaters when I first got it and it was awful ! It was freezing and as mentioned my windows kept fogging up !

That's ok as a temporary measure, (I.e if say you removed the heater for repair, or because your matrix is leaking and you're awaiting a replacement etc.) But as a long term measure it's not advisable, as you're actually creating a non cooled circuit that does not pass through either the matrix, or the rad. At the end of the day the heater matrix is just a small radiator and it performs both a cooling function for the engine, as well as a warming function for the car. If you're going to remove the heater permenantly, then do it properly by removing the enitre circuit completely, and fitting a standard bottom hose without a heater take off (they only cost about £5) http://www.minispare...|Back to search

And no, It's really not advisable to permenantly remove the heater from a road car. If you do, then you will need an electricaly opreated, or some other type of windscreen demister, both for safety reasons and to pass an MOT. The heater also plays a fairly important role in ventilation and air circulation. Without it, you can exacerbate the existing classic mini problems of damp and condensation and as the mini has enough problems with corrosion as it is, I wouldnt persoanlly want to do anything that's going to potentially make that worse.
