Unfortunately I don't know when production shifted fron Grade S to 8.8 bolts.
Sometimes, you may find the remnants of a paper label on the subframe, which may tell you something.
The front subframe is likley to be original as it is not very common to need to change one of those.

Thinking about it, the rear frame from the factory has 2 3" square horsehair pads above it, this would be something to look for. It still won't tell you anything for sure as people could fit their own but most people aren't insane enough to bother with them.

Are you sure? Every time I have seen it is has been stamped in, as it is on BMH ones now. Never seen it painted on.MOWOG was usually stencilled onto subframes in white or yellow paint rather than stamped in.

Actually you are right, it is stamped on top of the webs isn't it? But on production line frames that I have removed it was also painted on the hidden front face of the front member of a rear frame, and somewhere similar on a front one.
Dan, that's correct.
My '66 has both original subframes, the front having "MOWOG" sprayed in yellow on the front bar exactly as you describe!
