Please can any one help, my mini was starting and running fine. Had to leave it in garage for 3 weeks and battery went flat, I recharged battery but now the car won't start with the key. The car will start if I hot wire the starter motor, I have checked the starter solenoid is not stuck and changed starter relays. I have replaced battery in key fob and tried reprogramming. Can anyone help please its a mini Mayfair SPI
Thanks James.

What year SPi? Have you got a two-button fob, or just one?

I've also got 2 buttons. When I have the battery off for a few weeks, i reconnect the battery, and press the lock butto (on the right of the fob) four times in quick succession.
The LED should flash and arm the alarm. Then unlock and try to start.
Little tip - disconnect your boot courtosy switch, the spade connector will pull straight off. If you don't, the alarm will sound!

I'd check the power at the ignition, sounds like your ignition key isn't bridging the gap between the battery and your starter.
Does it work at all, but a bit tempremental? If so possibly a dodgy connection?

As long as the LED in the dash is off when you have your key in the ignition and turned to position 2, then it's not the immobiliser...
What do you mean by the fob being temprememtal?
