After jacking up the mini one side at a time and then putting on two front axel stands I seem to have cracked the windscreen. I have been told that this can happen as sometimes the subframe can twist the body very slightly stressing the windscreen.

I have checked the body and underside for evidence of structural failure and not found any big issues.

Anyone got any tips on making a support or something where you can jack the front up evenly therefore spreading the load between the two sides.

Oh for a home garage lift........ Lol

Think you've just been unlucky, chances are your windscreen already had a stonechip or beginnings of a crack.

The screen is fitted inside a rubber seal so unless you shell is particularly weak shouldn't stress the screen when lifting on either side.

You could make a beam that fits into a trolley jack with a pad at each end to fit under the subframe. Should not be difficult to do.

I thought the windscreens on minis weren't structural, that why they are only held in by a rubber seal not bonded. But I could be wrong.

Maybe it wasn't fitted properly.

The other possibility there was stone chip in the screen and it acted as a weak point or even a defect on the edge of the screen hidden by the rubber. Never ever had one break or on any other car to be honest.

Surely chassis flex under hard cornering would have more stress than jacking it up from one corner??

Skuttle has been repaired so that is a possibility ....

Might try making some sort of jacking thing to use with the trolley jack it would make the jacking up process quicker if nothing else rather than doing a side at a time.

If anyone has a pic/ instructions to make one they could post I would appreciate

Thanks for all the replies

Something along the lines of 2" box section with two plates of 1/4" weld one at each end. You could then bond / screw / bolt some thick rubber pads on these as well.

Depending on what the centre hole of the trolley jack has will will determine the centre dowel to mount on the jacking adapter. Or you could use a bolt / stud to mount it as well.

You normally have to lift a fair way to get an axle stand under. In a nutshell it shouldn't damage the screen.

We've had our minis at all sorts of angles lifting. Never cracked a windscreen.

Bonded screens are stressed, but screens in a seal shouldn't crack
