Hey guys rebuilding my subframe(for the second time!) and have encountered a problem which I haven't come across before. As the pic shows below the holes In the top and bottom arm are miles appart. So far that if you put one ball joint in place, the other bearly touches the other hole.

Have I missed somethis so obvious I should be banished from working on minis again?! I didn't have this problem last time. Iv undone the tie bars so I get maximum movement and it doesn't really help. I have fitted new cones but I can't see that causing a problem. The lower arms are on right as the taper is the right way round. Haynes doesn't help much here =[ any ideas?

Thanks Phil

It is quite disoreintating lookig at them upside down. Could you turn the right way up and put a hub in to compare spacing?

Have you got Hi Los fitted?? If so is there threaded section extended all of the way out?? If that's the case I would suggest compressing the cone and then wind in the hi lo until its sitting loose. Offer the hub again and see if it makes a difference.

Those tie bars look like the heavy duty adjustable types, have they been changed? the lower arm looks at a funny angle to me. Are the lower arms standard?

It all looks correct, do you just need to rotate the arms closer to where they'd be in use?

Imagine the top arm rotated until the gap between arm and bump stop is about 2 cm and then see what that gives in terms of alignment.
It looks OK to me.
