I have bought the minispares 10" wheel brake kit which allows me to replace my current 8.4" brake and caliper set up with a new 7.5" set up. However when i removed the old disc and flange and tried to fit my new disc and flange the disc is getiing stuck as there is a clearance issue between the inside of the disc and the hub. Has anyone else had this problem?
It looks like there should have been more machining of the disc inside but both 7.5" discs are the same. Also the drive flange and rear of the disc is deeper on the 7.5 set up than the 8.4 so the disc is pushing up against the hub and binding. There isnt something right at all here. Can anyone help?

The outside edge of the hub was machined differently originally when it was used with 7.5" discs than when used later for the 8.4" setup. Although it is the same casting, the machining detail was slightly different right at the edge. Is used to be machined into a step leaving quite thin material which was fine because that area is only supporting the seal and not the bearing. In the interest of cheapness this detail was deleted when the 8'4" discs were brought in because there is far more clearance inside. This is an issue with some specific 7.5" discs, but not all of them. It's due to tolerances stacking up that some discs will touch but most won't. Simply swapping the discs should solve it.

Although it should just be the disc rubbing. If as you say above the flange is rubbing too then something is assembled wrong.

I think i've seen this before, there may be a fault with the casting. I'll try and find the thread.

The flange is fine. I was saying when the flange was screwed to the disk and fitted this is when the binding happens to the disk.

The front overall shape and front edge of a genuine original S hub is different to the more common 8.4" hub.
Normally there is no problem swapping between the two, but sometimes the inside cast finish of the disc fouls the outer edge of the step on the hub.

It is probably the fault of the hub and not the disc.

Talk to Mini Spares on Monday and see if they will swap the disc - however, it is still possible that you will have the same issue with a different disc.

Spoke to my local mini garage and they have had the same issue with that kit. They say the only option is to use new hubs. Which means i have to fork out for new hubs now.

Sorry to bump an old thread. Just searching to see if anything on whether to get the brake kit with AP calipers, or MS calipers, but come across a few threads about some problems with the fitting using the MS calipers. Is this issue sorted now?

Best bet is to PM simon@minispares on here. He will be the best one to give up to date info.
