Hi there people,

Just a quick question... I'm going to be painting my wheel arches gloss black, but when rubbing back the final coat of paint, before lacquering, do you wet the wet 'n' dry paper or not?

Seem's like such a silly question, but hay!

Thank you all very much,

Iain.

I only ever use wet and dry, wet when I am flatting back the last coat to polish, never use it wet on primer because primer is porous

So yeah I would use it wet as it helps stop the paper clogging up and creates a slightly finer finish :)

But only use it wet when rubbing back the final finish for polishing?

I only tend to use it wet when flatting back for polishing or before lacquer but make sure its perfectly dry before applying lacquer!

you can use it wet no probs unless its water based basecoat you have used, might have an issue of washing the paint off

and you dont have to polish it no, depends the finish you get, my car was quite dry when I resprayed it and a flat and polish would have helped but I didnt bother, if you want a perfectly mirrored finish a flat and polish after its painted and lacquered would be recommended just dont rub through the lacquer :)

Thank you very much!

Is this a good guide to follow as a resource, after the primer is added??

Yep that looks all about right to me! could have saved 3 years doing a bodywork and paint course if they just gave us some paper with that on ;)

hahaha you dont want to see my car!

the roof needs repainting because I resprayed my car at college last year and ran out of lacquer because they forgot to order more so its a bit dry and my front end got modified by a corsa on the A27 in november and matching metallic paint is hard, matching silver metallic paint is near enough impossible so its gunna be a bit two tone, so the finish on my car wont be anything to look at but I dont mind a slightly rough looking car

You're like me then! My car is far from 'eye candy' to the third person, but i love her!
Regarding my paint.... My paint code of Nordic Blue is a discontinued mini colour and has to be custom made :mmkay:

Ahh mines meant to be Silver leaf metallic but I went for Ford Moondust silver because it was similar and means I can buy rattle cans off the shelf if I ever needed to respray anything, handy really as I now have a front end to paint :P
