I suppose it would work. The oil cooler would be designed with flow in mind so it won't effect the cooling flow. Only issue you may have would be corrosion. But then the anti-corrosive properties in the antifreeze would combat this..
Thats what i thought re the corrosion. They look lik the same rads as used on charge cool kits inc the vmax one.

How about a heater matrix? Cheap, readily available and suitable for use with water

Charge cooling is something I used to run stock on my old Celica (ST165 it was turbo'ed).
Not very efficient to be honest which is why Toyota went to air/air coolers on later cars (ST185). They went back to water/air for the ST205 too, but that was thought to be for homologation reasons (as they rallied it). But it was nearly twice the size at the one on ST165 and seemed to work well (when the pumps weren't failing).
But if you do do it, ensure the rad that actual cools the air is as efficient as possible. And the rad with the water in it, yes, we used to run Pace oil cooler rads and had no problem with these ally rads running water/antifreeze.

Took mine out to save weight

Sorry didnt explain properly. Would be on its own system plumbed in, with its own elec pump. Would like to source a small 12v fan for it. Can only find about 7 inch ones which would be too big.
Might be a bit flimsy but would a computer fan work? Would need to be weatherproof though :/

Oil coolers are supposedly not very good when filled with water. Due to the differences in the heat capacity of oil and water the two types of cooler need a different surface area to cross section ratio of the cores.

Im using 2 x motorbike fans on my mini turbo for extra cooling, they are probably 4-5 inches in diameter and move alot of air, they are only 25mm wide also. They are from a yamaha R1 or R6 i think. Its been a while since i bought them.
Maybe they would suit your application.
