I just bought the Rover pod: 30056700 off ebay, I thought I did a bargain but now I am a bit unsure if this will actually work with my Mpi. I have a Sykes reader at hand, just missing the pod. Will this work?

You need 30350800. Or I think the multi application pod 303528 works and gives more options

Version 3 pod and up should work with the MPi.

hi
the pod I use is 30350800 in a ACR4 , with the iso 9141 lead 30214600 or 30212400 J1962

you can use lead 3021400 but only on some mpi's

If you need airbags then use 30358500 v4 pod which is really the one to buy

lots more reading here

good luck

Thanks John.

The pod is on it's way in the mail so I'll find out shortly..

The airbag is another chapter, anyone experience the airbag to go off? A guy in the Norwegian mini club crashed into the back of a Volvo SUV and totaled the front, airbag didn't go off.

I bought a written off 1999 Sportpack Cooper back in 2000 which had hit something very hard with the nearside front - the airbag definitely deployed OK and the driver lived to tell the tale.  I bought the car to use all the bits in my Clubman estate.  There are pics of the totalled car on my site.

Has anyone tried one of those universal type scan tools easily available at low cost via ebay on an mpi? I have a proscan which cost around £30 just not tried it on a mini yet but I know mpis have the 16 pin socket under the dash.

Universal readers rarely work on mpis due to the software you need. Crypton or Sykes Pickavent readers are your best bet

Sorry mate won't work read the sticky where I have given the part numbers of the pods. The one you have "won"does only Rover products and not the MEMS 2J ECU used in the Mini MPi.

I'll try my proscan on a cooper 500 tomorrow anyway and see what happens, handy if it does but no loss if not.
