sorry to hit a nerve .. narrow minded mmm just being honest.. lol ; ]
My nerves are fine, we just have different opinions.......the MINI has been around over 12 years now and along with Jaguar Land Rover has become an important and successful part of the British Motor Industry worldwide again which is something to be proud of for all the workers at Oxford, ......as said the 1990's Rover Coopers and especially the later MPi's are also not considered a real Mini Cooper in the eyes of some early Mini purists! I can remember some diehard members leaving the MCR when we voted to accept it in the club back then........Rover had planned to end classic Mini production for good in 1996 when it failed to meet new European safety and emission laws. New owners BMW could not believe Rover management were planning the end of their most famous brand worldwide and that Rover could not see the future value of investing in the classic Mini and a future replacement. BMW then insisted (with the late John Cooper's help) that several million pounds was invested in the 1997 Mpi A-Series engine upgrades to reduce emissions, along with front rad, side impact door bars and the airbag/seat belt pretensioner SRS system was added, all of which kept classic Mini production going for another 4 years until 2000 and the launch of the R50 MINI in 2001 as designed by Rover engineers at Gaydon and Longbridge. All classic Mini's after 1994 were of course built under BMW and even have 'BMW Group' printed in their handbook so it always makes me laugh to see those '100% BMW free' stickers stuck on the back of any post '94 Mini.
