You can buy a Kent 266, or an MG Metro cam which is virtually identical from Mini Spares or any of the other main Mini parts specialists.

For the head work I can highly recommend Rob Walker Engineering in Witney, Oxfordshire, which is just along the A40 from where you live.

cheers i shall look into it!

have looked into the rob walker enginering, would you recoment getting a head redy done with a surcharge replacement or getting my current head ported and converted?

is the swift tune sw5 the equivalent?

Thanks!

It is important when doing performance improvement work on the head to measure 7 calculate to get the correct compression ratio. With the very excellent 266 cam an ideal CR is around 10.2:1.
The calculations will give the cylinder head combustion chamber volume required and you will need to tell whoever does the head that you need that volume. He can then machine it to be correct.
You might as well just get an exchange head from Rob Walker, but take his advice on what will be best for you.
I can't comment on the SW5 as I've never worked with one, but the 266 is really good in a 998 so long as head, carburation, exhaust, etc., are right for the engine.

Mini Spares Centre sell the cam under their part number MDM266 at £175 inc VAT. You will also need a set of followers and a timing chain.
The alternative is the MG Metro cam which is virtually identical.
Both are really excellent road cams, but make sure you accurately time the cam in using an offset woodruff key. The Kent 266 times in at 106 degrees ATDC whilst the MG Metro times in at 110 degs ATDC. With a brand new timing chain set 2 degrees advanced from those figures to allow for initial chain stretch.
