hi all, would just like some opinions on exhaust wrapping my manifold, sorry if this subject has already been covered, my search is playing up!!

basically just wondering if its worth it? will it make any difference ? the obvious thing that strikes me is cooler under bonnet temps? as the exhaust manifold is right next too the intake surely it will reduce power if warm air is entering the engine? i may be wrong, might make no difference :) its not a high performance engine, just a 1275 with a stage 1 kit, its a maniflow Exhaust manifold (engines currently being fitted)

any advice much appreciated

Most discussions on this conclude that it is not a good idea....

On other cars it works, and I think it would too on the Mini, provided that you fitted reflective heat shielding in the tunnel, to prevent the inside of the car becoming too hot. That does leave the problem with the mounts becoming too hot, which may also be solvable with some ingenuity. Of course, fitting a turbocharger would be a useful way of removing waste thermal energy from the exhaust....

On minis it seems to cause failure of the manifold welds. Of course the total heat produced is the same and it still has to go somewhere.

In fact, engine bay heat is not an issue in a Mini and with exhaust wrap it is more likely that carb icing will be an issue.
