Hello everyone,

This is my new acquisition, a (I believe) snowberry white 1962 MK1 850.  I plan to attempt a restoration over the next year to essentially transform it to Cooper S specs more or less.  But here's the rub: I am a Canadian currently posted to Kenya on diplomatic assignment and will be attempting the restoration in Nairobi!

For now, here are a couple pics but I plan to keep you posted on how things go and some of the challenges I will be facing with attempting the rebuild whilst in Kenya.

Cheers.

Whats your long term plan for the car? Leave it or take it with you ? Good luck with whatever you do, the weather in Kenya looks like its been kind on the body work !

That's a very good car to start with! It would be a shame to leave it behind?

Wow this will be interesting, is it easy to get hold of parts in Kenya? Or will you ordering online from UK mini sites?
This could be a big a adventure for a little car

Cityspeed:

Parts  in good repair are scarce in Kenya I'm afraid.  I will be shipping most of it from the UK.  I have quite a good shipping agent and its about 200 quid a shipment for probably three or four shipments.  I actually need a new engine.  This one came with an 850 missing the head and I am going to up it to 1275 if possible.  That will likely be the most expensive single shipment from the UK.

The grille looks to be an improvised bush job.  I pulled the front bumper today and emptied out 50 years of Kenyan earth.  I will post some closeups of the grille tomorrow for you.

So far, the biggest surprise has been a maggot colony living under what was left of the carpet and an ant farm under the rear seats!
