Hi,

ever since i put in my 1310 I can't seem to get the manifold to down pipe clamp to stop blowing. I've tried a new clamp, several different exhaust putty's and sealants but it still start blowing again after about 20 miles. I'm using the manifold and down pipe from the 1000cc engine as the down pipe didn't fit the manifold i got with the engine.

I also change the engine bushes not that long ago so there's not allot of movement in the engine.

I know the simple answer is to get a LCB but I'm a student and really haven't got the money for it as well as my insurance which is up for renewal!!!

Has anyone got any suggestions of how i can over come this really loud, annoying problem. Toby

Not a lot of engine movement may still be too much!

You're never running a cast manifold on a 1310 are you? Let the poor thing breath :-D
I've had trouble with that joint on the standard noodle before. But I'm afraid my solution was the one you allready said isn't an option. LCB.

You might find a 3-into-1 freeflow tubular ex. manifold easier to find second-hand and that would work fine. It just needs the bracket at the bottom to fix it back to the gearbox output cover to prevent it fracturing in use.
Then you can easily join the exhaust pipe on the end with a short adaptor pipe if necessary.

I've got new engine mounts but my base plate for the top engine mounts hole is elongated so its not a great fit, but I'll repair that when i respray it again!

I've got the clamp on the diff and new rear mounts because it was making a fair rattle on the seat belt bolt!

I think I'll have to live with it for the time being because I'm changing cars in July and maybe invest in an LCB one day. Just have to keep wearing my head phones for the time being:P

i was going to suggest the bracket that goes from the diff casing to the bottom of the down pipe as i find that is very often missing.

assuming that is fitted, and your top engine steady is in good shape, i would say the clamp at the top (cast manifold to downpipe) isnt too healthy. the factory single bolt type is pretty pants to be honest, i always suggest using a twin bolt type as available from mini spares. as seen in the link below....

i find this type of clamp is much better, and if you can weld it can be improved even more by welding the "cups" on each end, and welding the head of the bolts to the clamp too, this makes it much easier to put together when in position as its a bit of a faff otherwise.

Don't forget the 1275 block is taller than a 998 sure its not under tension and being pulled apart? The difference on a undecked 1275 block is 3/8" difference taller than the 998.
