Having decided to change to a non ballast system with the aftermarket

Ignition system by Powerspark, I felt it worth seeking confirmation of

my understanding of what’s involved.

Kernow cooper placed a good item under FAQ’s and it probably makes perfect sense when

You know what your doing, but I just want to be sure to avoid wrecking the module and

or ignition wiring. So here goes.

Replace coil with 12V version.

New 12v supply from ignition side of fuse box to + coil side.

Red module wire to + side of coil.

Black module wire to – side of coil.

Disconnect and tape up P/W & Y/W wires, set aside.

Adjust timing.

Hope this is correct.

Spot on only thing is you may need a white/black wire if you have a rev counter and this wire goes on the coil -

It is,

"New 12v supply from ignition side of fuse box to + coil side." is the connection with a white wire attached, it may also have the other end of the pink/white wire on it depending on the age of your Mini.

all of the above and like mentioned if you have a rev counter then leave the negative side of the coil wiring standard and just connect the black wire to it.

You may even find the black wire will plug into the vacant spade connection in the loom the points went into

basically the new connection for the coil positive you take a feed off the white wires on the fuse box.

white wires are ignition switched 12v positive (non fused)

I would suggest it's always best to remove unused connectors from equipment.  In this case it's better to find which of the two white/black cables is for the original LT circuit, if you aren't going to connect the electronic ignition to the original dizzy connector, and remove it from the coil.  Then both ends of the cable should be insulated and taped back safely to the loom.  If you leave it in place and it manages to brush against anything that is earthed while you are driving and it is flapping around, it will kill the engine.
