Yes, it is always a write off from now on.  It will be listed on the insurance database as such and there is no getting away from it.  HPi or insurance companies will always know and failing to disclose it in advertising is grounds for a refund.  Writing off is an insurance thing not registration.

Also, if you don't declare it and try to get top dollar for it and the buyer checks it out you will lose the sale.

I always check my cars out before, during and after I've seen them just to make sure.

When i used to do salvage, iirc, a cat c requires a VIC check whilst a cat d doesn't... None of my cat d vehicles had any notes on the log book whilst every cat c (after a VIC check) did have "substantially repaired" on the notes section. When I bought a cat c car I never used to get a v5 until the VIC check had been completed. (Bikes are excluded from needing VIC checks)

I may be wrong so please correct me though I am speaking from my past experiences.

Check to see if its on the list, I got a cat c bike the other year and it came through as clean, I even sold an a4 Audi that had all the paperwork from the insurance to say it was a cat c and again when checked it came through fine as well.
