Right the time has come for me to start looking for a welder!! The main problem I have is I dot have power down my garage? Can you buy a welder that runs of a battery as generators are far to our of my price range thanks!

We run an industrial mig of a genny with no problems. The thickness of metal we are talking about means the welder isn't running close to full power. Spot welders are more of an issue as they take a beefy pulse of electricity that usually trips the genny.

Normal unleaded. I am trying and failing to remember the make. It's a fat red thing which isn't very helpful!

We run one of these:

But only at low settings as you would for car bodywork. Any heavy duty stuff has to run off the main supply.

might be cheaper to get a power point run out to your garage by a sparky?

you could just use a 13amp extension lead if its only a small welder, im currently using a 20meter 13amp extension reel to run my Clark EN100 and the lights in my garage with no problems.

Is an extension lead possible, or is the garage at a remote site?
