Spi Auxillary Fan Switch Reusable After Radiator Replacement? [Solved]

Hi all

 

I'm about to replace the radiator on my 1995 Cooper Spi as it's corroded and leaking a lot.

 

I have the replacement ready to go in which has led me to discover that the auxillary fan switch exists.  Can I remove this from the old radiator and whatever seal/clip is used and re-use it in the new radiator, or do I need to buy replacements for the new one?

 

I thought it best to ask before removing the radiator so I don't risk being out of action while waiting for parts to arrive.

If it is an original radiator replacement and the switch still works, reuse the switch. But to ensure no leakage I would replace these:

Thank you, I'll get replacements for those before I begin.  I think the switch still works.

I fitted this today with the new seal and retaining clip, but once it go up to temperature the radiator dumped all the water out through the the sender hole.

 

I tested it overnight before putting the new radiator in by filling it with water with the sender/seal/clip in place and it didn't leak at all, strangely.

 

Any idea what the correct way of sealing this hole is?

As shown below in the Minispares picture. Installing the seal first and the sensor after is easier. Some WD-40 also helps. Make sure to rotate the locking clip to engage on the tabs.

Hm, that is what is what I did.  I'll take the sensor/seal out again this evening to visually inspect.  Thank goodness I don't need to take out the radiator again to access it.

Nice and easy to fix - the retaining clip had rotated (presumably while putting the rad back in) and the sensor came loose.  Wasn't easy to see last night!
