Hi Guys, I'm having trouble with my brakes, I'm running a 1990 city
Ive put up a few posts relating to my brakes in the past few weeks but nothing seems to work so this is where im at... basically my front brakes were seizing up after 2 miles preventing my from moving and having to stop for 10 mins to free them off also and once I released the front bleed nipple the pressure was released and the brakes gradually freed up.
So far I've changed the flexi hoses and front brake pipe running along the front subby as that twisted during replacing the hoses. Now when it comes to bleeding them there's no real pressure, just fluid trickling out...
Any advice? Or just keep bleeding it?

you either need an eezibleed to pressurise the system and force fluid through.

 

Or if 2 of you do the open nipple shut nipple routine

 

open nipple press pedal down

close nipple let pedal up

 

repeat.

very little pressure might be the servo or master cylinder

there has been a new brake pipe fitted to the master cylinder as the old one has a split and the brakes were bled after that and were bleeding fine with pleanty of pressure, since then all ive done is replace the flexi hoses and front brake pipe running along the front of the subby so my thoughts are that the master cylinder ans servo are fine as they were working last week...

i dont know how long it should take to get the air out after fitting a new pipe and hoses but in total weve spent a good 1.5-2 hours bleeding the system

hmmm i have been bleeding in this sequence... pedel down, open nipple, close nipple, pedel up.

does it make a difference to open nipple, pedel down, close nipple, pedel up??

well if you open nipple then press pedal the fluid and air as somewhere go rather than compressing.

 

Then close nipple before lifting pedal so no air is sucked back in.

 

got to be worth a try, but is a 2 man job.

 

You did use to be able to get bleed pipes with a one way valve on

yeah ill give that a try... my bleed nipples at the rear need replacing anyway, do they just unscrew from the rear backplate or do i need to remove them from the cylinder?

They go through the backplate and into the wheel cylinder.... should just unscrew if not seized

Yeah sounds easy enough... I've invested in an eezibleed so well see how that goes tomorrow.
What's the recommended psi I should have in the spare tyre?
Also it says about exhausting the servo in the eezibleed instructions... Is that just pumping the brakes with the engine off?

Ok update, it's still seizing up at a slower rate... This is after the eezibleed

Could it be the master cylinder building up pressure or something? The pressure was released once the bleed nipple was opened and freed of the brakes so changed the flexi hoses... Other than that what else could be done?

Only really the valve on the bulkhead and the master cylinder it could be now.

Just read another post on here mentioning that it might not be the master cylinder as the rears are connected to it and rears are fine

Is it both front brakes

 

If so it does suggest something that is common to both..

 

Long shot but try giving the valve on the bulkhead a few taps when they lock up just incase something is jamming in there..
