I need to remove these two, so that I can get the housing sandblasted and painted.
What's the best way to remove each one?
Where can I find replacements?

Humour me, I'm learning.

Many thanks, Jack

Thanks for the links. The guessworks website is normally good, but that page has nothing on it.

I think that you meant this one the A+: http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

For the removal of both of them I used this:image_14671.jpg

However, I had to use a wooden frame clamped to a table with the housing facing down and pulled down through the wooden frame. Two or three hits with the sliding hammer and out they came. I initially tried pulling up with no success. The help of gravity made a big difference.

If there is any difficulty, make the casing as hot as you can get with a hot air gun. Don't use a flame as it can infuse carbon into the alloy, which may ruin its properties. Ali expands more than steel, so they will loosen.

I have usually found that they come out fairly easily.

Hot air gun I have, hopefully I can get them out.

Many thanks for the links to replacement parts.

You'll not get it anywhere near hot enough with a hot air gun.

You need to get it 'spit' hot.

My favoured tool for the job is a gas hob, or ring burner, heats the ali around the bearing rather than the bearing itself. Doing it that way, they drop out fairly easily, I've even had one drop out by itself.

To remove the idler bearing, use a blind bearing puller, the type shown above is ideal.
