I hope that jack is not on the slinging bracket. That is not a jacking point and will distort the floor.

The car looks straight but will need some work but will be worth it in the end.

My papa did that - nothing to do with me :shy:

Give your dad a good telling off then and tell him to get the gin in. :D  :D  Did you see the pm i sent you??

Yes, thank you :-)

My dad only buys a round when there's a 'Z' in the month

I love mk1's bought my dad a '64 and we rebuilt it, yours looks in better nick!
That bit where the spare wheel fastens to, we couldn't find a boot floor with one of those in so we salvaged it. Pretty sure the mk1 boot floor is a slightly different shape to later models too

What a great project car! I would like to find a good mk1 to restore one day.

Love the Reg number too!

Good luck with the work ahead!

Ben

That's the best method to get this car awsome and sorted. The whole and only process is like 2000 ounces though. Just Gettin the car sandblasted and etch primed Is only 500 ish!! I prefer blasting because it's cheaper and quicker, but I'd I had the money I'd get surface processing to do their magic on it

Around £1500 for the dip and then the coating, according to 'im indoors...

Where do I get this sandblast & prime for £500?

Will there be anything left after a sandblast?

I'm frightened to sneeze on it in case anything else falls off!

thats not all that rusty to be honest, its pretty crusty and will require some panelwork but thats not the end of the world.

With minis the front end panels are almost a service item with later minis so yours is in pretty good nick, I would be stripping everything and getting it blasted as that will provide a good basis to then fix any panelwork that shows itself (it will literally blow through any dodgy areas), cut back anything that looks rotten, plate up, and dress it all so it looks correct, primer, paint, then re-assemble and yeah it wont be cheap but this car will be worth a fair bit being an early mini so worth a bit being spent on it!

Do you know anyone who's a mechanic or a body builder? we spent a few weeks looking for a blaster and they all wanted £700 without etching it, eventually we found someone who is now a good mate of ours through blasting that did it for £300 and etched it

There are a few around, where are you in the UK? I use a place near to me on gosfield airfield that does it cheap:) primes them too

This will be ideal for blasting. It will be fine, I promise!:P

What a fantastic project! Looks well worth doing - and properly, always good to see another Mk1 being given another chance. Great reg' number and I notice it has Cooper / early Super stainless steel door trims, early Mk1 chromed door catches and what looks like Mk2 seats and trim panels. Have you made any plans about what colour it's going to be...? All a long way off I know, but sometimes it's good to have a 'grand plan' with a goal to keep things moving along.... ;D

If I had the space I'd love to take on another Mk1 or Mk2 - I'm just about to build a double garage but both 'berths' are already spoken for... :D

Edit - just noticed another wee item... the steering column bracket is chromed - as per early Super and Cooper / Cooper S... do you know anything about the car's history - is there much paperwork with it? I have a feeling this could be a very interesting thread... :shades:

The only paperwork I've got is the log book.  However, I can confirm that I come from a long line of car bodgers, so anything could've happened while my uncle owned it!  I do know it was sat in his car port for the last 10 years.

Incidentally, uncle's friend informs me that he 'lost' a Triumph Spitfire after a heavy night at the pub.  All we know is that it's in a field somewhere.

If anyone sees anything resembling this around the outskirts of Bewdley or Stourport, IT'S MINE!  lol!

I do know a bodybuilder, but he's not into cars ;-)
