I have two sets of unmounted (were removed from badge) JCG red badges. My brothers 95 is an Si as well and has the same, red "Cooper" badges that were adhered to the original Rover Cooper wing badge. Does anyone know how these were mounted originally? Was the "Mini Cooper" emblem removed from the wing badge and then the "Cooper" red badge glued on. Was the red "Cooper" roundel just glued/stuck on over Rovers standard badge? What was the adhesive used?

Any info would be great!

Here is the Cooper badge in question

As far as I remember the cooper emblem fits into the circle on the wings..... then you glue the wings on

Right, but how do they stick to the wings? Glue? epoxy? foam tape? Any ideas?

If I remember correctly from my JCG brochures, when you bought an Si (or the likes) kit, the picture illustrated that these rounded badges were included. They where not already adhered to the wings already so they much have done that while fitting the kits.

They were stuck on the original badge, but with the original badge centre removed. I have still got a replacement centre from JC's which I haven't used yet.

So, the Mini Cooper decal was removed before installing the John cooper emblem?

Haha, I actually have two full sets of them...just in case.

Interesting, I just picked up my brothers 95 jcg Si from storage and the badges are different. I mean, same idea but the red is different. I'll have to try and snap a few pictures

There are some copies out there. JC's were enamelled and the red colour wasn't even across the badge.
But then they may have changed suppliers over the years.

Right. I have seen some pretty shabby replicas out there. Mine are gen and as you describe. My brothers are as well and have been on the car since it went to JCG for the Si kit. Fully documented. This seem a lighter red and more uniform in color. I'll do some side by sides when I get to the shop.

Thanks all

Well, I went ahead and bought that 3M emblem adhesive as well as took a good look at the orignal wing badge. I Cooper one sits way far out when just placed over the Cooper-wreath. I used a heat gun on it to loosen and took a pick to the original emblem. Figure I was going to cover it anyway, right?

Turns out there Cooper-wreath is made up of two parts. The first is a thick, clear plastic cover. That came off easy after the heat with a sharp, thin screwdriver.

The actually printed Cooper-wreath was tricky. It is (rather nicely) printed on a metal backing. It is also very tight to the edge of the opening. I had to add more heat and really work this one out. Once removed, I noticed that there were two holes in the back of the wings that might have made it easier to push out. Either way, I got it out with any damage to the wings.

With both layers removed, the Cooper emblem fits nicely and much more flush. Very happy to have these on finally. Also, these were brand new genuine Rover wing emblems that I started with. Might not be as easy on an old emblem that has had the sun and age make things difficult.
