I can never get my head round the fact that even though these cars are called a Mini, they are clearly anything but that!

Just something for you to ponder...
Did you know that a MK1 VW Golf is smaller than the current VW Polo??
It goes without saying that a modern car is bigger than a car designed in the 1950's - cars have gradually got bigger and bigger over the past 50/60 years, simply because you can't fit modern safety, technology, suspension and four adults etc. in the package of an older car (especially considering people now expect to be comfy in a car, whereas in the 50's and 60's cars were still new for the masses, meaning people were simply happy to be able to get somewhere without taking the bus).
The problem with the Classic Mini is...
It didn't have a genuine MK2 until 2001 (the BINI) - that's over 40 years after the MK1 was introduced. Whereas other cars like the VW Golf for example have had genuine new MK's every 7 to 10 years, since they were introduced. Meaning they gradually got bigger, so no one noticed.
Unfortunately with the Classic Mini that didn't happen, so the BINI hatchback get's called massive, whereas in reality - it is in fact one of the smallest hatchbacks in it's class.
Anyway, enjoy the bank holiday guys... it's time for the pub.
