Does anyone know if any vendors make new replacement hydrolastic displacers?  I have a right hand drive, 69 Austin mini 1000 and I live in the Chicago suburbs.

I have sourced two old used displacers from a junk yard (breaker yard?) in the UK, but would really like to renew all four displacers.  I have 70 series tires (tyres?) on the car and when the suspension collapses the tires end up sitting on the fender (wing?).

thanks,

Theres load here  , everyone prefers "dry" because its less hassle so i guess thats why they price them so high

As far as I am aware no one is producing new hydro units. Only second hand are available - some types are effectively unavailable. The reason they are so expensive is that they have been out of production for many years

I converted to dry as I couldn't get matched sets for my Cooper S at a sensible cost - would have much preferred to keep the wet set up

Being second hand, some will be better than others

I have a brand new pair, just one problem - i'm in Indonesia and they are in the UK, and I won't go back until July. If it's any use...PM

No-one is producing them.  All are NOS or refurb and now at least 30 year old, age hardened rubber.  Better than nothing, but not as good as a new one would be.

Yes, quite. These have been properly stored and outwardly show no signs of cracking and have never had fluid inside. Still, he won't need them now since refurb ones are available.

If you do buy "refurbished" ones make sure you understand what you are getting

It often means just a coat of paint as they are pretty much unrepairable

Yes, indeed how else could you refurbish such a thing? It is basically fraudulent. Remember that the actual spring medium is the rubber, the fluid only provides damping and load transfer to the other wheel, so they inevitably go the way of rubber cone springs, excessively hard, but finally disintegrating long after that.

I would suggest that all hydrolastic Minis will need a conversion to dry suspension sooner or later, unless someone does actually introduce genuine new displacers.

Well I have a hydro car and the only thing I have had go is one pipe. I replaced it with another used displacer, but after seeing the car sat on its arches, I decided to fit a set of hyrdo competition bump stops, so if it ever goes again the car will sit on those. I guess the act as helps to the loads that the displacers would normally take.

I found that a rear ARB help the car but that was from the point of keeping the car flatter in corners and reducing the roll, but it also links the left and right together.
