Hi all,

Recently bought a new starter motor, and as with many new parts, bits of it are in the gold protective coating.

What I'm wondering is - what exactly is the coating, and is it a good idea to sand it back and paint it properly?

Here's a picture;

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks,

Simon

Passivated zinc plating. To prevent corrosion!

So since I don't want it gold, I can just sand it a little to get it rough and paint over it, and that'll turn it into beast mode protection?

Use an etch primer on it, you can leave the coating on that way
