Hi wonder if anyone can advise, driving my 1000 minivan home today and it wasn't firing right ,when I got home whipped the plugs out and numbers 1 and 4 were a perfect sandy colour but 2 was oily and three had carbon sooty deposit over it, the plugs were renewed only about 20 miles ago, after standing for about a year in the garage, I wire brushed them put them back in and it ran perfect for about 5 miles then the same thing happened , it doesn't burn oil and the engine oil level is fine ,I wonder if it can be valve related, it is the original leaded head , who sells unleaded recon heads ?any suggestions anyone? thanks ,Steve.

is the needle valve and float level ok ? but as you say its a oily on 2 could be the valve stem oil seals or guides ? oil can only come in the guides or past the rings. do you see andy smoke going down hill on the over run. For it to happen in such a short mileage its something odd? 200miles but 20miles. Have you compression checked it?

swap the good and bad plugs, see if the problem persists in the same cyls or moves, ie dodgy plugs

I tested compression, all bores are between 130 and 135, I have put redex in the tank and I'll give it a bit of a run and see what happens ,there is never any smoke from the exhaust.
