Hi all as above I have a 1984 mini mayfair im restoring but need some advice on wiring looms, as to which I should get and if its worth buying new (I plan to add new lights, switches, clocks, radio and speakers) or just to renovate my old one.

 

The other problem I have is that I labeled the wires as I took the engine out but only in pencil (I know...WHAT A WOLLY)

 

So any advice on what action to take would be awesome and also what bits and bobs ill need to get the job done quickly and properly.

If the old one is servicable and not hardned and the outer sheath splitting then it could be used again, depends on what you see. The extra bit can just be wired in as required and all the wiring colours and locations they come off are in the wiring diagrams in the haynes manual.

Hmmmmmmmmm ok! This is something I need to think about is it just a case of re-taping it and changing connectors? Im completly useless with wiring diagrams just cant work them out lol!

Straight forward enough just take your time it looks far worse than it actually is and do one bit at a time.

I found the wiring to be the easiest part of the whole project....

 

Print out a colour-code chart and it all becomes obvious.

 

Identify one end of the loom by the wiring colours (water temp gauge, indicators, etc.) and lay it roughly in the right place... Then work back... it soon becomes obvious where everything goes.

 

Once you have it all in the right place you will be able to see how well it fits your new plans for the car - Autosparks can modify a loom for you if you need a lot of extra bits.
