Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say hello from San Diego, California, now that I found this forum. I got my 1992 SPI Mini (LHD from Germany) a little over a year ago.

Now I'm getting the little beastie fixed up for the trip to Monterey California for the Historic Automobile Races this August at Laguna Seca Raceway. John Cooper is to be honored so it's going to be Mini heaven up there.

I've been finding all of the technical info on SPI stuff here invaluable.

Cheers,
JTBob

Hey, its refreshing to see a mini with its correct identity over there in the states! Just out of interest, how did you get a mini younger than 25 years old?

Hmm, I know of about 15 classic Minis in San Diego. I know that Los Angeles and San Francisco have quite a few more.

I know of what guy in the San Diego Mini Club who has 6 classic Minis in various states of condition. Another member has a Moke, another the van and another the truck. They all bring a lot of stares from people here in the States.

Cheers,
JTBob

I don't know it's full history. From what I gathered it was imported to the States from Germany (it still has the German plates, registered in Heilbron). Any classic Mini can be imported and registered in to the US without any problem other than a pile of paperwork, except for California which has 1974 or older restriction for smog regulations. 1975 or newer would need to be smogged every two years.

Somewhere along the way, it was registered in California as a pre-1974 Mini. I bought the Mini from a guy living in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. Since it was already registered in California, it was a simple transer.

There are a lot of younger classic Minis here in the US. I know of an MPI in Los Angeles. The biggest problem with the fuel injected models is that there isn't any support structure here in the US. This forum's FAQ section has helped solve a couple of problems.

Cheers,
JTBob

Yeah, I watched that movie again a couple of months ago. Trust me, San Diego isn't really like that, at least I hope not! :w00t:
